Re: Direction of the forum

Hello! I'm still around, though left IT in 2004(!) and my main interests now are cycling and, er, cycling (I've lost 20kg and built my own beautiful bike this year). I'm very open to handing site maintenance to Alexias. Whilst I started the site in 1994, I don't think I have any claim on it morally ...

Website Update...

I did a massive update of the site software just now.

More about the changes can be found here:

Things will be...the same...but different. Please post any problems on this thread (that I will subscribe to).

Re: Problem with website

Thanks Derek. It was the site and was caused by:

a) Me not doing my job by being up to date with site software updates on the content (CMSMS) side; and
b) The web host doing their job and keeping PHP cutting edge.

Fixed now!

Site update

I updated the forum software today at about 10:00GMT. I made a small mistake and any posts for about 10 minutes at around this time are lost for ever... Oops. I have also switched on a "mod" that will slowly delete inactive (not logged in for six weeks since registering) or lost users (not...

Security Update

Hi everyone, I am still getting a steady stream of human registrations for the purpose of spamming. Some recent users will have had to answer the Bucephalas question in order to have their registration approved. My next idea is to try out a service called CloudFlare to protect (and speed up) pothos....

Now 100 x 100 and allowed to be 1024 bytes. :D

Re: The forum has been updated...

Youi are not the only one to delete some sales pitches. I am a bit stuck with that one - I have tweaked the security but it is obviously not good enough at the moment.

I found a fix for the member list, but it took a while.

Re: The forum has been updated...

Took my eye off the ball here. I will look into this. Hmmm, looks like the search index failed to complete - I was having major ijnternet issues before Christmas (now fixed) which may help it to complete this time. Marcus, I thought that the link would be an easy fix. And then found I must think aga...

Re: How can we improve the main Pothos site?

Call me a cynic, but hasn't this thread drifted a little from the original?

I looked back to see where to split it but it is beyond me!

Re: The forum has been updated...

I think that they are registered by the software so that the site can be indexed by them. In the past this was all hidden but in this version they are in full view... And as for the fixed width, I like the choice. I also like the user details to be on the right hand side. So I will be working (slowl...

The forum has been updated...

Phew  That's over.

New forum software installed and appears to be working. This version has many extra features compared to the old forum.

Could you post any comments/problems/queries on this thread and I will do my best to answer.

I also think the line about Alexander being "arguably the most famous secular person in history" should be deleted. There are many historical, secular people who are just as famous as Alexander. You really made me think about this! I have a strong feeling that this is a quote from one of ...
