Re: Why did Alexander go to Egypt?

HI Marcus! I think so too that it wasn't a primary objective there for him, but still leaving whole Egipt in Persian hands could be a little dangerouse - they could make approvisations from that. Well I believe that it was briliant idea to go there and rest knowing that egiptians will support him. M...

Re: Why did Alexander go to Egypt?

Af course I'm sure all those reasons You've mentioned were right. His strategy in Asia Minor was to cut off the persian feet from their land bases. Second was that Egipt was still rich but also they hated persians so it was easiest of his campaigns. He knew how the egiptian people will react on his ...

Re: In the Footsteps of Alexander

All right small remarks... Main impact of attack was made on the centre not wing. But the tactic is the same just in this situation it was better to attack in the middle. So it is closer maybe to Granikos battle.Map of the battle is here: http://mojtaba.proboards7.com/index.cgi?board=7&action=di...

Re: In the Footsteps of Alexander

Hi companions! I'll try to answer that question. Napoleon used so called economic of forces (I'm not sure if I translated corectly) in his battle of Austerlitz. There he charged main body of his army against Austrians and waited for the good conditions to send the best troops on the right flank. Sor...

Re: Alexander and Roxanne

I believe that it was his plan to marry the woman from Asia but he waited for the right one girl. I strongly believe that he waited for the affection and he finnaly found it in Roxana. He could take any other girl but he choosed this one - daughter of not the greatest Asian lords. Maciek M

Re: Alexander of Epirus activity simult with Alex the Great

Hi Ruth!! Yes he was killed in south Appenin Pennisua during crossing the river escaping from ambush of Samnites. Before that he encamped with his army in three hills with good view between each other but then on the morning there appeared the havy fog. Samnites which waited for such occasion attack...

Re: Alexander of Epirus activity simult with Alex the Great

HI I'm not sure if Cartaghe was concern about it. It was then one of Greeks which came to look for fortune. Alex fought against Samnite tribes and even Rome wasn't the strongest side that time. In fact Alexander Epirot wanted even to make aliance with Romans because he saw them as the weaker enemy t...

Re: Congratulations to Maciek

It was a lot of work but really reading and writing about ancient is great pleasure. My "thesis" (we call it work in polish was on 120 pages and it was all to prove that Alexander's aim wasn't any drunken dream or passion for treasury. There is too much evidences for it that's why I had to...

Re: Absence of Epirots in ATG's invading force?

I think that it was a kind of competition and Alex from Epir was very ambitious man. Reading about his campaign I think we can suspect that if not special circumstances he had much larger possibility to win whole Appenin Penisua then Pyrrhos. I think in those time there was no real threat from west ...
