I got 14 out of 15. :D I got #12 wrong about what Abdalonymus was doing when Hephaestion came across him. I thought he was grooming his horse. oh well now I know. That was fun and educational, thanks for the link!

Re: Bucephalus statue in AZ

I just have to tell you that there is a special statue of Bucephalus here in Scottsdale, AZ. It is standing in front of a nearby store on Main Street replacing a former statue of Thomas Jefferson. I don't know how long Bucephalus will remain in front of this storefront, but I have taken a few photo...

I have thought a lot about what you have said Vergina Sun. You are right that the wars fought more recently have lacked the courage and passion that used to exist. I think part of it is hand to hand combat is not used as often because they have all of these weapons that use technology to hit their t...

Paralus, you have listed some very brave men indeed! Believe me, I know that other generals/Kings did the same as Alexander and faced their enemies head on. I have read of Pelopidas and he is one of my favorites. :D Let's not forget King Leonidas as well. Whether you like Spartans or not what he and...

Great topic! I have wondered this as well. I think if they did find his body they would do some things like they have on Egyptian mummy's. There was always a debate as to whether King Tut was murdered or died of natural causes and the Egyptian government gave permission to run dna testing and x-rays...

I know we've been talking about how maybe it's because of the different cultures that Darius "ran away" from Alexander, but I really appreciate how Alexander was always "in" the battle and not watching it from afar or when things got bad, that he didn't run off. I just can't shak...

I have a quick question about this magnificent animal myself. I had always thought his name meaning "Ox-head" was because of the white patch on his head, but I was reading where it was because of the brand used by the breeders that resembled an oxhead as their mark. Has anyone else heard t...

what I would love is if they found something like some papyrus scrolls stored safely in a box that are still in tact with orders or something from Alexander or his Generals. Indeed, this could be very interesting because this place, given its position, would have been an important one regarding the...

I know most of you have heard of the argument between Craterus and Hephaestion that made Alexander so furious as to ask Hephaestion what was he without him? I had read an interpetation in a book of that quote that suggests it wasn't so harsh as being mostly mad at Hephaestion for the argument, but A...

All this sounds terribly thrilling. I'm not one to greatly hope for amazing archaeological finds, but I just can't help myself! I wonder what they will find? I was thinking about this last night! It would be great to find so many things that were used in every day life like pottery, coins (th...

Here is a bit more info: On his way back west from India, Alexander the Great’s Admiral Nearchos reached the island of Failaka, about 20 kilometers from what is now Kuwait City, and founded a town there called Icaros. Twenty-five centuries later, that Hellenistic city is slowly coming to light again...

I also forgot to add that he was Alexander's Chiliarch and sole commander of the Companion Cavalry. He also expressed that he wanted his and Hephaestion's children to be cousins so Alexander and Hephaestion were married to two of Darius' daughters.
