That's strange.

Re: New Michael Wood documentary

... I should just watch them like a drinking game..everytime he says something that I disagree with strongly I drink a shot. :D That is funny! ... but Wood loses me when he spins the history from a modern peace loving perspective (very alien to those days don't you think?). ... Actually I don...

Re: New Michael Wood documentary

Exactly. I think he walked the line pretty well. He didn't bore the general public with scholarly minutiae and it was still interesting for those familiar with Alexander. The Battle of Gaugamela should be good. I would even enjoy just detailed video of the battle field. Although I can't recall at th...

Forum request - avatars to 100 x 100

Not life and death but I wanted to request that the avatar size limit be increased from 80 x 80 and 6 KB to 100 x 100 and 10 KB. That small increase really wouldn't add too much to the forum bandwidth would it? And a 100 x 100 size is just big enough to see much more detail in the avatars. 80 x 80 l...

Re: FYI, Alexander and His Successors: Essays from the Antipodes

A bit annoying about the Badian book ... ATB Isn't it!? I also have 2 or 3 of those articles. We probably have the same ones. I either got them on JSTOR or by searching used book sites for the old journals. But then, I guess if one gathered all of the articles in that book in this fashion it might ...

Re: New Michael Wood documentary

Thanks Susanne. I look forward to it. Some people have belittled Wood as a historian. But I have always enjoyed his In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great . Sure it doesn't offer the in-depth analysis that you find in some scholarly Alexander books. But I didn't expect it to. The fact that he went ...

Re: FYI, Alexander and His Successors: Essays from the Antipodes

Unfortunately no info on his forthcoming Demetrius bio: that too will be a must when it comes off the presses. I agree! I've been impatiently waiting for this one. In an email about 2 years ago Pat told me he was "still working on it". I hope he hasn't lost his momentum with it. I really ...

FYI, Alexander and His Successors: Essays from the Antipodes

I did a search and couldn't find this posted yet. But mine came today from Regina Books - Alexander and His Successors: Essays from the Antipodes. There's a good variety of interesting articles. I think I will move this one to the top of my "To Be Read" pile. Also, I saw that coming out at...

Re: Cleitarchus Reconstruction: Alexander in India

But writers do have characteristic styles just as vases have characteristic types. Some Pothosians may be able to guess who wrote this passage from the style, even though there are no dead giveaways: That morning they lit a fire in a deep hollow shrouded by great bushes of holly, and their supper-b...

Re: Cleitarchus Reconstruction: Alexander in India

It's good to hear from you Andrew! Congratulations on the book. I really look forward to reading it. In fact I just placed my order at Amazon.com. I just read Ch. 5, Book 12. The book must have taken a lot of work. But I bet it was fun to do also. I really like how you used the various text formats ...

I'm glad you like the user choice option and I hope you add it for the forum width. That's the best way to please everyone.

I voted for choice.

And thank you Thomas for your continuing work on the forum!

I didn't realize that Abebooks UK would list books that Abebooks.com does not.

Good to know. One more hunting ground on my list.

Welcome selket6666! I tried abebooks.com - no luck. You did not list the title but I found this book Alexander de Grote. De ondergang van het Perzische rijk by Jona Lendering . Is that it? I found it on a European book search site: Alexander de Grote. De ondergang van het Perzische rijk Is that the ...
