Re: Was Philip II Even Greater than Alexander the Great?
Greetings NGS, "Well, Philip was a better military brain..." I don't know- I think Alexander was the better military mind... but I also think he took on too much too fast .. "..., better at administration..." It would have been interesting to see what Alexander would have done if...

Re: Was Philip II Even Greater than Alexander the Great?
Greetings, Good question. In a way, the two cannot be compared because the accomplishments were so different. Philip was a local king who used various means, both fair and foul in all likelihood, to build up a kingdom that was also shaped from the work of other men. Alexander was a king of an empire...

Greetings , "Regarding remark no 1 : When i mention the word 'gay' , i mean 'man' not 'gay man ' I am sorry if you took it that way. I am aware of the current bibliography on the subject ( very expencive hobby !) so i sincerely hope your teaching is aimed at younger readers. " Hmm, my comm...

Re: New historical fiction on Alexander and friends
Greetings, Interesting. It's obvious that you read the book in an entirely different way, seeing a worse scenario than I did. And nothing was said about being "gay"... the word isn't even in the book, because 1) the word wasn't in the culture (although sexual behaviors between men and boys...

Re: New historical fiction on Alexander and friends
Greetings, Just to reassure people about the book... Phillip did not have sexual feelings for his son. That was not the story plot. It was a different scenario, a play of power to drive a different reaction from his son. It was manipulation but not attraction. The theme, so to speak, is power, polit...

Re: New historical fiction on Alexander and friends
Greetings Alexias, Understood. I suppose all fiction has to have a large element of "made up" because we can't know the thoughts, conversations of people long dead. All fiction is supposition and conjecture. I felt the author did a fair job of bringing in characters and giving them individ...

Re: New historical fiction on Alexander and friends
Greetings Alexias, Interesting. I just finished it and my reaction was quite different. Aside from the servants and minor characters, the people of importance are historical. Any story is going to have some "made-up" characters. The relationships are complex but intriguing. It's obviously ...

Re: Alexander's Hair Color
Greetings, It's a good question with no easy answers. However, not all Greeks were dark-eyed and brown-eyed. If I recall, some of the Homeric tales also featured some blonde gods/goddesses, red-headed persons, etc.. And I suspect that between slaves, migrations and maritime trading, the population w...
