Re: Boeotian helmet
That's great. And now my imagination is running away with me ... if it was found in the Tigris, was it lost when the army crossed the river on the way to Gaugamela? The river was swift-flowing, and no doubt quite a lot of men lost various items as they struggled to cross!

Re: Alexander the Great: A New History
I second that - definitely worth a read! (Then again, I'll read pretty much everything written by, or edited by Heckel. It's a shame he's now retired, as his output is likely to fall off completely, now, or at least be severely curtailed!

Re: Cheronea, a question

It will be followed by findings of the Macedonian funeral pyre, Macedonian and Theban weapons,a fresco from a Macedonian tomb unknown to many of us , as well some of th...

That does look good, I must admit.
What a shame it finishes at the end of March. Otherwise I might have considered a cheeky little trip to Athens to see it!

All the source material
Alexias, just to say that the work you've done on posting all the minor source material is fantastic - thank you. I'd be happy to help with more of this (time permitting), but for some reason it won't allow me to start a new topic/thread in the folder. Which is odd, as I have moderating rights. Anyt...

Re: Netflix’s Alexander..
I haven't seen it, but the general opinion seems to be that it is just for mass-consumption rather than the purists. I made it as far as about 10 minutes into episode three and I've failed to summon the enthusiasm to press 'play' to watch any more. It is awful. What angers me the most is that they ...

Re: Today
This is great.
I went to Vergina (and Pella) in October 2019, and was disappointed that I couldn't see any of the city of Aegae. But even then they were anticipating opening the complex to the public.
Looks as if I need to go there again!

Re: “Alexander the Great and His Injury in Kyropolis Reconsidered”
I am not sure it would have been a crossbow that fired the stone which hit Alexander. A slingshot is far more likely, and these can be as deadly as a bullet. Reading the article, I assume that this was a translation issue. I don't recall that there is any evidence of the Sogdians using crossbows (a...
