Re: phpBB updated
All of the forum is where the threads are I think. The "Fixed" content of the site https://www.pothos.org/ is flat HTML that I harvested from a very out of date CMS that was full of security holes. If you wanted the ability to make fixed pages again then it might be possible to do it with ...

Re: Emails/Alexias and Main Site/Thomas
Greetings, Alexias, as a moderator, I still see only the dark box, so I assume only you and Thomas can see emails. Thomas, is the site update still going to allow us to post articles on the main pages outside the Forum? Regards, Sikander I think that would be the "Pages" add-on which I ha...

Re: phpBB updated
Please be aware that the upgrade appears to mean that you can now contact other members directly via the email address they have used to register with the forum. If you do not want people contacting you via the email address you have used, you may wish to consider creating a new email address and c...

Re: Direction of the forum
I think you can move a thread to any forum by moving the first post. I'm not sure about moving to topics. Maybe I misunderstood.Alexias wrote:As far as I can see, you can only move a post to an existing topic.

I think if you just move the first post then all the rest of the thread will follow?

Re: Direction of the forum
Ok, I've made a start on setting up new forums. Any suggestions/amendments/complaints, please let me know. The next phases are Moving existing posts to the new forums. This will take some time so will be a work in progress Updating the software. This may entail locking the forums over a weekend so ...

Re: Direction of the forum
Hello! I'm still around, though left IT in 2004(!) and my main interests now are cycling and, er, cycling (I've lost 20kg and built my own beautiful bike this year). I'm very open to handing site maintenance to Alexias. Whilst I started the site in 1994, I don't think I have any claim on it morally ...

Re: Problem with website
Thanks Derek. It was the site and was caused by:
a) Me not doing my job by being up to date with site software updates on the content (CMSMS) side; and
b) The web host doing their job and keeping PHP cutting edge.
Fixed now!

Site update
I updated the forum software today at about 10:00GMT. I made a small mistake and any posts for about 10 minutes at around this time are lost for ever... Oops. I have also switched on a "mod" that will slowly delete inactive (not logged in for six weeks since registering) or lost users (not...

Security Update
Hi everyone, I am still getting a steady stream of human registrations for the purpose of spamming. Some recent users will have had to answer the Bucephalas question in order to have their registration approved. My next idea is to try out a service called CloudFlare to protect (and speed up) pothos....
