Re: Andecdote about Alexander purchasing female musician..

Agesilioas, thank you for that much, I appreciate it. I don't think I'm imagining the passage I am thinking of, but who knows. I cannot find my research notes, a drawback of moving. I seem to recall something about his paying something like ten talents, for the female musician. I recall she was a ha...

Andecdote about Alexander purchasing female musician..

I cannot locate my research on this, but it seems I have come across an account somewhere, that Alexander may have purchased a female musician, a harp player, for a large amount of money. If anyone is familiar with this account, would you please post the source. It would be much appreciated. Many th...

Re: Conspiracy against Philotas By Waldemar Heckel

I was reading this thread, as this issue has always fascinated me. In the end, histories, theories aside Alexander ran an army. That required rules and the application of discipline else, well, we all know what happens when insubordination occurs... Philotas, a very highly ranked officer, a general ...

Re: Appropriate Ancient Spelling for Hephaistion...

i recently caught up with this thread, and found the various comments interesting, and somewhat amusing. I am not a student of ancient Greek lanaguage, wish I were, but I have only so many hours in the day, and had a hard enough time with Latin and German, so Greek, well... Maybe in another life... ...

Appropriate Ancient Spelling for Hephaistion...

Can someone who knows more about this stuff than I, give the appropriate form for "Hephaistion" in "ancient Greek. I have both Hefestion and Hefastion. I do not want the Latinized versions, I hate them!

Thank you,

Re: My Historical Novel: A Soldier's Duty

Hi Hiphys,

I don't have an agent as of yet. Am still looking, some things like my writing have had to take a back-seat lately to real life. I'm getting there though, and will let you know. Many thanks.

My Historical Novel: A Soldier's Duty

Since so many folks pimp their novels in this forum site I figured I'd do the same. After a very long, unexpected journey the book is coming together and some of you pothos , Alexander's Army , Alexander fans, et al. folks already know I am posting "teaser" chapters of my historical novel:...

Krateros & Perdikkas, Orestians, possible royal blood?

I have to admit to being lazy, and haven't completely checked the Forum on this, but has anyone any information view, etc., of any familial connection between Krateros and Perdikkas? From my research I understand both were Orestians by birth, there is some evidence according to Heckels, which unfort...

Re: Re-writing my Novel on Alexander

Well, what is that saying that if anything can go wrong it will go wrong? Well, it's gone wrong. My trip to Greece is off due to personal issues. I'm aiming for the Spring. Still haven't gotten permission to enter Iraq, but I guess that's moot right now. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore, the...

Re: Help, best way to upload photos to site?

Thanks, Marcus, sorry to ask such a silly questions, but It's not quite working. That's why I thought there might be something other than just do as the little tab suggests. It's probably something to do with my computer which is on its last legs or my own ineptness. :?

Many thanks,

Help, best way to upload photos to site?

Anyone, I've got some photos from Alexander's Barque at Karnak temple and would like to post them, but am unsure how best to do this.

Thanks,

Re: The Kalindoia Inscription

Just a little question to satisfy my curiosity. With reference to Alexander I Philhellene - the capital would still have been in Agai in those days rather than Pella? Also, does anyone know of any sources for more information on Alexander I Philhellene. I know very little about him and would like to...

Re: The Kalindoia Inscription

Absolutely fascinating! I'm so glad you posted this. I was wondering about some of the names, thanks for the explaination. Re your question of when the city was granted to Macedonia. I believe that just before Alexander left for Asia he divided up all "spear won land" and his private lands...
