Linking to pictures in URLs

Just a test. I've registered with one of the free image hosting sites, and want to try out linking to a picture there.

Temple of the Oracle, Siwa

"Then press the red button ..."

2 minutes later: "Ooh, I say!"

1 minute after that: and if you click on the thumbnail it sends you to a full-size picture on the hosting site. Dead good.

Very nice...

Blimey, I could start making out that I know what I'm doing!

Hmm, perhaps not! :oops:

Okay, I get where the first URL came from - if I click on the picture it sends me to a site with that address. So how, why, and where was the jpg URL created? Sorry, I'm an absolute doofus when it comes to internet language - have even avoided posting on Tim Spalding's Classical Wiki because I was so intimated by the need to use codes! OTH, it'd be nice to understand how images can be included in a post. . .

The image code

I am going to try and use BBcode to show this. Hope it works:

This is marcus' code (with due apologies to those with colour deficiency!):

[URL=http://www.picfury.com/l/Siwa_Oracle_temple_1-1.html]
[img]http://www.picfury.com/l/Siwa_Oracle_temple_1-1-th.jpg[/img]
Temple of the Oracle, Siwa[/URL]

RED: This is the code for the link to the page. Note that the url code spans everything (the image AND the text for the link);
ORANGE: This is the location of the jpeg image file;
BLUE: This is the code that tells the forum to make the image an image;
The other text is the text in the link.

You of course need to be hosting the image on another site. Use the search link I put in (
Link to (pothos supporting) Google search on image hosting) the clicks on that today have made us $0.50!

Of course, it's made much easier by the fact that, if you upload a picture to PicFury, they give you all the codes - all you have to do is click "copy" on their site, and click "paste" in your Pothos Forum message. They even include the [url=] business.

I'd love to make it seem that I've been some sort of wizard - but honestly, it couldn't have been easier.
