Possibly I could write and convince the witer of The Six Wives of Henry VII to put Andrew's Alexander's Lovers to music?

Alexander's song: My favourithe things

Post by Paralus »

Spear points on cornel and soldiers hard bitten
Bright brassy armour and armies I've smitten
'Round wheeling cavalry rolling up wings
These are a few of my favourite things.

When my army balks
When treason stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things
And then I don't feel...so bad.

Hi Paralus,

Did you mean "The Famous History of the Life of King Henry the Eighth"? (I don't think his father had as many as six wives!) If so, then I'm gratified to be mentioned in such exalted literary company!

Cordially,

Andrew

Regarding internet games about movies!

Hi Karen and Amyntoros,

I know now that this is an inside joke regarding Yahoo and Tiffany's. Sorry to have introduced it to the Pothos board. We will see when the movie is finally released. I got the joke finally! Maybe in New York City, Amyntoros should check the windows at Tiffany's too! :D

Tiffany's showcase!

Post by jan »

 Because someone told me that this movie has been put on ice, I noticed the ice blocks in Tiffany's showcase windows. On top of the blocks of ice, (shades of O'Donnell) are sparkling diamonds in a variety of forms! As I have quoted a poem so often I will share it here as well as elsewhere:

True friends are like Diamonds,
Precious and Rare,
False Ones, like Autumn leaves,
Found Everywhere!

I believe that this is the inside joke that is circulating and going round and round!

That's all to this old favorite poem in my autograph book written to me by my mom.

:D

Yes indeed! I seem to have misplaced an "I".

Off to lost and found......

Sorry Taphoi, I was referring not to the Bard but rather to this fellow......

You are therefore in "beer-stained denim" company. (I beleive that was the phrase he used on Journey to the Centre of The Earth.)

amyntoros wrote:Your youthful musical endeavor does rather explain why you have a tendency to GÇ£burst into songGÇ¥ on the forum, though. I was surprised you didnGÇÖt take the opportunity in an earlier thread when Elvis was mentioned alongside Alexander. It even had me going for a while - except that I stop at the song titles GǪ (DonGÇÖt you step on my) Open-toed Boots GǪ a song for Calanus GÇô Hunka Hunka Burning Pyre GǪ and one for Calisthenes GÇô Jailhouse Rot GǪ

I shouldnGÇÖt encourage you in this, should I?
Tendency to "burst into song" indeed! I don't recall my displaying such a tendency. Possibly, though not certainly, that may have something to do with some of the marvellous red wines that appear to domicile within my house? As to encouraging me, you cannot but help it....Philotas' song:

You're caught in a trap
You can't walk out
Because they hate you too much Philo.

Why can't you see
What Krateros' is doing for me
Though I don't believe a word they're sayin'?

We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
And I'll be rid of Parmeion
Via suspicious minds

So, if an old friend he knows
Drops by with murder in tow
Would he still see that treason in my eyes?

Now , this could go on forever: Fools Rush In (a song of the Athenians at Chaeronea); Viva Per-sepolis! and Darius' song, Hyrcanian Rain:

Seven lonely days
And as many camps ago
I reached out at Gaugamela
And you were gone
Don't know why you'd run,
What you're running to or from
All I know is I want to bring you home

Enough! I promise to be good from now on. Kenny will virtually throttle me........

Wow - Rick Wakeman - I think I'm still flattered. Did you know that I quote from "Circus of Heaven" by Yes above the first chapter heading of The Lost Tomb of Alexander the Great (Death in Babylon)? The lines are:

Grecian galleons, The Sack of Troy, to the Gardens of Babylon
A play of millions roared along
The gigantic dreams of Alexander the Great
Civil wars where brothers fought and killed their friendship in hate
All seen by Zeus performing scenes of the magical way
The day the circus came to town

Very apt stuff, I thought.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Makedonian Pie

Post by karen »

A long, long time ago
I can still remember
how those battles used to make me smile.

And I knew if I had the chance
I could order "Level lance!"
And maybe they'd be happy for a while...

But endless monsoons made us shiver
In India, beside a river
Bad news on the door step
They couldn't march one more step

I can't remember if I cried
when my orders fin'ly were denied
Something touched me deep inside
The day the campaign died.

And they were singing
Bye, bye Makedonian pie
rode my carriage, made a marriage
but morale had run dry
And good old boys
drunk wine 'til they were pie-eyed
Singing "This'll be the day that I die,
this'll be the day that I die."

(Should I go on?)

A year or so ago a delightfully zealous young Pothosian suggested we have an "Alexander Convention." Unfortunately, you could hear crickets whistling over the internet while he waited for a response. However, in the unlikely event that I come into some money (for major up-front expenses) I swear I will organize one along the lines of a sci-fi convention. Why am I thinking of this right now? Because apparently we have amassed an enthusiastic group of "Filk" singer-songwriters - the final ingredient for a great convention! Who'd have thought it?

Best regards,
Amyntoros

One of you is infected by Callisthenes

:D I am sure that Callisthenes would be a compulsive writer if rebirth were a reality! One of you surely fits the bill!
