The Palace of Aegae, it's considered the second most important structure of classical Greece after the Parthenon. The place where Alexander the Great spent his childhood.

The mosaic belongs (room E ) to the banquet hall of the palace of Aigai . About the comparison of the palace with Parthenon as mentioned by Mrs Kottaridis -the excavator and the restorer of the palace :
''The palace of Aegae was the largest and, together with the Parthenon, the most important building of classical antiquity. Philipp II is the intelligent reformer who modernized the Macedonian kingdom by introducing institutions and structures of democratic cities. Initiated in the Pythagorean doctrines and inspired by the Platonic ideas, Philipp II creates a building that embodies the golden rule of divine harmony according to analogy of number “φ”. The Palace of Aegae is intended to become the “soul” of the ideal state where Sacred Law meets the Rational Logos, the policy of power matches with the power of civilization and the court of the kingship becomes the forum of the city and the center of the public space.''
