Because the only ' Woman" there must be for ever ( 1000 + years) only the Mother of Jesus .Secondly ,the monks there are not allowed to see women for various reasons , castity etc. ( but young boys can enter as future monks )

Only men can visit the " holy city as visitors,and its a pity because there are many archeological treasures of Emperors of Byzantium paintings , jewels books etc and a beautiful panorama! Some of the monks is said to be saints. i think police it not allowed , so if you are a man and want to be lost to the whole world you may go there .But you must pray constantly ...

I think the mother of Prince Charles was an orthodox Greek princess , Alice , who later became a nun ( but i am not sure ) He is a frequent visitor there anyway

Sorry for the mistake :roll: i mean the grandmother of Prince Charles ...

Yes, his grandmother was the Greek Princess Alice. She spent the war in Athens helping Jews. I think she later set up her own religious order of nuns. .
