July seems to give us a very warm goodbye here in Athens. It's 41 celcius. Here is a summer series of photos (taken in haste) of the Cariatids in the new Acropolis museum. I was never really fond of these statues, they have a heavyweight form but one can give reason to that if one takes into account their stabilizing role in the construction (acted like columns)

All-time classic
Πάντες άνθρωποι του ειδέναι ορέγονται φύσει
Re: All-time classic
Thank you for these incredible photos! I never had the occasion to see at the back of their dress with the strings holding the upper part of the peplos, and the their complicate hairstyle. Really gorgeous!

I agree, thank for the photos. It’s good to see the statues so close up. I’d never really thought about the back of them and it’s surprising to see how much detail there is. Now the museum is open, I must think about another trip to Athens. I went to Germany last year and was wandering around the Glyptothek in Munich. Turned around and nearly collided with the Alexander Rondanini statue. I never expected to find anything to do with Alexander on that vacation.
