Karen, you did that? It really good. That is the statue I always think of as his "older" slef. The wrinkled brow and the more tired look. I tend to think of ATG has having a bit darker hair, not so blond, but who knows? I can see how compelling his appearnace would have been when looking h...

Genghis Kahn might have been four times bigger, but the wave of destruction much larger in his invasions than in ATGs. .

I do wonder how much larger the world population was, how much it had grown from the time of ATG to Genghis Khan. Could that possible be reflected in his larger force?

The Zororastrians have always exposed their dead to the carrion feeders haven't they. I am not up tp looking up when the "Towers of Silence" first began to be used, but if that religious practice was viewd through the eyes of Pressfield's Macedonian, they would have seen it as barbaric. Wh...

amyntoros, thank you! I hadn't checked my e-mail. Btw, there are no links at the bottom of anyone's posts here for me. I guess that's why I assumed it would come via PM or something. Again, Thank you, it's a great thing to have for a "quick" reference. Hopefully someday I can return...

amyntoros, that would be very appreciated! At your leisure, of course. Thank you for the consideration. I live in a tiny town on the edge of nowhere and depend on the internet for a lot of my sketchy information. Can't run to the library quickly and am unsure often which book I should order if I wan...

amyntoros, I for one would love a file like that...whether personally or on the site. The fact that I now know someone has taken the time to do it....thank you. I have read back on most of the topics here (I learn so much), but I had missed that. I should go back and visit some of the topics to find...

Taphoi, what a wonderful line: Would you too throw away the so-called Vulgate so as to create an icon of dispassionate purity and magisterial austerity? To Karen, and anyone...I am very sympathetic to the idea that the gay community would have ATG as an icon. I hope my comment did not seemt disparag...

Seems that there is just enough "known" about Alexander to allow him to become the poster child for many things, depending on ones POV. That phrase "through a glass darkly" always comes to mind when I think of the real history of ATG. I have some gay friends who would love to joi...

I always assumed the face was Prometheus, but it is never said in the film or the commentaries who the face is. I liked that scene. The interchange between Alexander and Ptolemy was good. The geography of Aristotle was wrong and they knew it now. The world was a vast place. And it covered a bit of A...

One of my favorite scenes seems to be universally hated, even by those who love the movie and still discuss it on related forums. I’m talking about the scene after Alexander is injured in India and the screen turns to a blood red. IMO the color and the camera work perfectly convey that “disconnect”...

alexanthros...the proposal he sent to Caria after learning his father intended to marry Arrhidaeus off to the daughter of Pixodarus of Caria. Alexander read it wrongly and tried to circumvent his father and get the girl for himself. If I remember correctly, this is what led to the exile of ATG's fri...

"Maybe Alexander had emotion"?? Are we talking about the same guy that threw a goblet at Attalus? Who, according to some, tried to kill himslef after he skewered Cleitus? Or had to dragged off dead Hephaistion's body? I don't see Alexander's public persona as being betrayed by Farrell's pe...

Not to rehash the film, but for those who made it to the end of the film, you can see the difference in Ptolemy's view of ATG. In the opening sequence Ptolemy is speaking about the myth, the "god"....(insert film here) and then at the last he speaks more honestly..even admitting to being i...

I din't see the emotion as "gee whiz", but more of "Yes! I'm here..at last". The exuberence of being there, of finally going on towards his destiny (though perhaps undefined). Yes, he was a King and a general already, but still a young man. Anyway, the books look interesting..I'l...
