Re: Alexander's tomb and the biggest archaiological concealm
I wonder, if he was buried in that tomb, how come during the time of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar it was claimed his body was on display in Alexandria?

Re: Tips to Verghina and Pella
I've been absent for awhile (yes, visiting Greece again!) so I wasn't here to reply to this question sooner. I have been to Pella and to the tombs at Vergina/Aigai several times as well as to many other Alexander sites in Macedonia Greece. I can guaratee they are worth a visit. Whether or not they h...

Re: Royal flags and emblems
Thanks so much for this quick reply. It's only a tiny detail but one I wanted to try and get as correct as possible. I'm down to the last 1/4 of the final chapter of my novel and little details like this can be sticking points for me. Evharisto poli!

Re: Latest on Alexander's death
When I was first researching and beginning work on Shadow of the Lion, I had an interview with the secretary of Macedonian Studies in Thessaloniki. the first question I asked was "do you believe he was poisoned?" and she said, emphatically "Yes!" There is good reason to believe t...

Re: Rereading fire from heaven
I constantly refer back to this book as I loved the way she portrayed the characters and wrote the story. Historians and classical scholars need to remember though, that she is writing historical FICTION so not every single bit of info is necessarily going to fit what is recorded (and remember the h...

Royal flags and emblems
This is a kind of unusual request, but would anyone have an idea of what sort of emblem that Ptolemy might use on the sails of his ships (or standards)? Would he use that 16 pointed star emblem that is found in the Macedonian royal tombs?

Re: This is a public forum
I have been absent for awhile and just posted a reply about Pella and the Macedonian tombs but it only went into my drafts. Are they reveiwed before posting? Or is there a way of getting it out of the drafts and posted as a reply on the subject?

Re: The Tomb of Olympias
I was not aware that they found anything inside that tomb but perhaps they did. I have been to the tombs a couple of times and didn't see anything on display in regards to that tomb's contents, but perhaps they were not on display as yet. The tomb of Philip fits very well to everything (including th...

Re: The Tomb of Olympias
Oops I accidently saved my response as a draft.Yes it was the tomb with the paintings of Persephone. And, as many times as I have been there I have never once heard it referred to as possibly the tomb of Philip which the Greeks have designated as the tomb with the golden caskets and I believe that i...

Re: The Tomb of Olympias
Regarding the 'unidentified tomb' at Aigai which has wall paintings on it, I don't have any photos of that unfortunately. Not sure if there is anything on line. The paintings were all pastel and depicted scenes from myths. As for the dates I am also uncertain. Re the tomb they were searching for at ...

Re: "where" have you met alexander and why do you love him
I was introduced to Alexander when I was 16 and in my last year of high school wrote a novel with an Alexander theme (about the destruction of Thebes). Since then I have read and studied about him and at this moment I am starting the final chapter of a long novel about the fall of his dynasty. I hav...

Re: The Tomb of Olympias
Back in the mid 90's I was in Pynda on a research trip and happened to meet the archaeologists working there -- one who had discovered the trench dug around the old fortress by Kassandros - who was then looking for Olympias' tomb. He told me that they would have buried her first there but that later...

Re: The 311 peace treaty between the Diodochi
Thanks for this info. In writing historical fiction one is allowed to speculate, so this will allow me to speculate that Ptolemy was not actually present at the peace pact but, as I sort of figured, likely had sent an ambassador. (This was because he'd already gone home earlier and I couldn't figure...
