Hello,

In nature of Alexander, Renault speculates about a possible parylsis.
However, as with the "glance that looked heavenwards" was probably just another special habit that charactirized him.
It was copied a lot by people of his time.
Best regards,
Dean

Hello, Karen says, I've never seen any evidence that Alexander did anything in the visual arts... has anyone else? No, I haven't ever read of Alexander doing anything in the visual arts- although it must be said that he was a great "lover" of the arts- which is why sometimes I can't believ...

Hello, Cheers mate! I supposed that there must be some quote somewhere, as the anecdote is mentioned in so many places. I think also that it is quite unusual that Alexander should be so dextrous in music you would have thought that his education would have been more limited the sword and horse than ...

Alexander the great and Music

Hello, I was just curious how in the film and also in mary Renault's writings, how the idea of Alexander being a keen player of the lyre? He is ridiculed in the film by his father if memory serves me right as being an effeminate singer or muscician and so I was just wondering in which of the sources...

Hello I found on the whole the documentary done by Michael Wood was interesting and quite balanced. He covered the terrain and gave a pretty impressive trek around the places Alexander would have visited.I loved the bit that dealt with Siwa and Persepolis. But also he is seen trying to inflate animal...

Hello, I haven't been posting much but I am trying to read the posts. I find this observation quite intersting that it was never mentioned in the sources that Alexander never ran round the grave of Achilles. I know it is a long shot but it may be that in the sources it may be mentioned at some other...

What , hello , what is going on?

Hello, Just reading the previous few posts and felt I had to comment. As Marcus points out, there are basic rules of "engagement"- and yet diplomacy isn't an art we all have mastered. But Kenny's comments certainly come from a position of "I am OK , You're Not OK" either way, Ken...

Hello Karen, How many people died due to Alexander's pothos? I have to confess utter ignorance on this one but we would have to think not only how many Persians lost their lives but also Macedonians, Greeks, Indians you name it. In fact, if we had a balance I wonder if numbers wouldn't be pretty muc...

Hello, with all due respect to Oliver Stone and his movie, how many times are they going to revisit it?(there still could be several more, Ruthaki, so I would hang on a month or two, just in case) OK he made the film and that is it, so basically what he is selling is the same movie but with a new pa...

Hello, Just out of curosity I was wondering, if it wasn't Seleucus who was one of the only ones whose marriage lasted "to the end"? I was under the impression that the marriages all pretty much ran amock once Alexander had died. It is often said that the last thing on Alexander's mind was ...

Hello, Yes the "eye" seen on the boats seemed to be similar to the Egyptian heiroglyphic the "eye" of Horus. From what I can gather the eye, as you also say, was used as a protective device to save the crew from the "fates"- to "see" and steer a clear way thro...

The eye

Hello, The eye painted on "many a" boat around the stern is a very popular image and I was curious if this tradition came from anywhere in particular, also if it was a primitive and original form of "figurehead" I wonder if the boats that Alexander took from Greece to Asia Minor ...

Hercules

Hello, I was just this morning watching Hercules, the cartoon with my four year old son (I think that I was enjoying it more than he was) and of course I couldn't help thinking about Alexander and how he apparently could trace his lineage back to this mythical ancestor. It is often said that A...
