Re: Frescoes suspected of Alexander the Great

Susa the Great, it wasn't an article but an image from Pinterest, I just did a little research on the name of the site (Fayz-Tepe) to add to my post. Doing additional research after you asked for the source, I came across website in Russian that I think provides explanation for the "retouching&...

Did you actually mean it will be open to the public at the latest in 2020? Or indeed it will be open to the public only until 2020?

Re: Frescoes suspected of Alexander the Great

Incidently, delos13, I didn’t understand that about earring and Hephaestion? Hazarapatish symbol, earrings? And no, no way that being H. That is very probably A stylishly depicted as an Asiatic king, with hairdressing and all! I read some time ago either here on Pothos or on Livius.org(I hope I am ...

Re: Alexander's physical appearence

Welcome, frompella! I like your photoshop result. One of the possible arguments for the reddish hair is the description of his hair as lionlike which can refer not only to the "mane" like hair but to the colour as well. :)

Re: Ages of ATG's Companions

Thank you, Alexias, it is a very helpful list. Out of curiosity, what were your sources? If you end up adding it to the main list, may I suggest to use an alphabetical order for easier search? :)

Re: Frescoes suspected of Alexander the Great

I didn't realize that white circle was a halo. It would be nice to read a description of this piece by somebody who is familiar with iconography of this art. As for the earring.....who knows, maybe it is not Alexander but Hephaistion who, following the famous phrase, is Alexander too and as such can...

Frescoes suspected of Alexander the Great

I found this image, suspected to be that of Alexander (I guess because of the horns). I couldn't find much information about it but nevertheless I think it's worth sharing. "Frescoes suspected to be those of Alexander the Great from Fayaz-Tepe (1-2 century AD) Termez. Author Ryoichi Sato."...

Re: Direction of the forum

I also think it's a good idea to leave the forum here and keep it out of FB; more so for pure technical reasons - it's far more difficult to access history and see more than one thread at the time.

Alexias, thanks for volunteering and doing a great job, it's much appreciated.

Alexander sarcophagus

I came across a traveling exhibition entitled "Gods in colour". I never heard about it before but it soon comes to San Francisco Art Museum. All the images in the link are very beautiful. At the very bottom, there are a few images of the so called Alexander sarcophagus. The colourful inter...

Not sure about "romantic" but interesting for sure. Not sure about Hephaestos but Theseus would be offended by such poor looking cows when he used to proud bulls. :)

Re: The Scythians

It looks like a great exhibition.

By the way, the secoration of the sole of the shoe also has a practical purpose as "antisliding" measure and also to delay wear-and-tear.
