Re: Battle Of Pandosia
Marcus wrote: One thing to remember is the prevailing attitude towards the people of the Persian empire. They were considered to be weak, slavish and effeminate. That is what Alexander of Epirus would have assumed, whereas he had learned that fighting the people of the Italian peninsular wasn't a s...

Re: Battle Of Pandosia
He he... touché!
Perhaps he would even be amused by any such comment. I don't think Alexander would spend any inordinate, if any, amount of time nor energy on ruminating upon such nonsense.

Battle Of Pandosia
1. Does anyone know what happened at the battle of Pandosia? I've come across some bits and pieces here, there, and everywhere, but seldom do I find anything but conflicting and contradictory accounts. One source states that Alexander's army was forced to fight in hilly, uneven terrain against the i...

Alexias wrote: And robbie's image from the Louvre too is barely discernable as Alexander. Well, in my view, I think it hits the mark pretty close in terms of his likeness. Perhaps, you were commenting on the quality of the pic, in which case I apologize. Again, compare with the Lysippos thunderbolt...

Re: Image of Hephaestion?
Then there is also this one. Hephaestion was said to have an oval face with brown, curly hairs. Can't for the life of me, though, understand why they gave him long hair in the Stone movie?!

Re: Image of Alexander
The likeness of the second beautiful image seems to correspond with other images of Alexander, i.e; 1.the lysippos statue where Alexander is holding out his left arm as if to hold something (perhaps a spear, if memory serves me) http://www.louvre.fr/sites/default/files/imagecache/940x768/medias/medi...

Re: Alexander theme park
Yes, Xenophon, it would seem you are right... forgot about that one. Can imagine the crest must have been relatively large.

Re: Alexander theme park
I agree, Marcus. I was thinking of picking up the movie (Colin Farrell) helmet replica... it's sure to set me back a few dollars, but hey, you only live twice, right?! I think it's pretty cool, notwithstanding the fact that it is totally inaccurate. Don't know why they couldn't just have gone...

Re: Alexander theme park
Ha ha... Picture this: Alexander cotton candy, corn dogs shaped like sarrisas! Or fluffy Alexander cuddly toys   Or maybe, from the souvenir shop, Alexander action figures, playsets á la battle of Gaugamela or Issus. Replicas of helmets, armor, belt buckles, coloring books! :P How ab...

Re: What if Alexander had lived?
Listen, Xenophon... I don't feel like carrying on this dialogue with you - it could go on forever. If you had a bad day or something, well that's too bad. But, please, don't say that it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to do it - you don't know that, OK? The turn of events could unfold in innumerable ways. Yo...

Hey Marcus!
So nice to hear from you I would love to have had a teacher like you back in school... you can bet I would've stayed on after class discussing Alexander with you
Can't wait to hear from you, cheers! .... Perhaps even get some support, I'm taking a beating here

Re: What if Alexander had lived?
Well, Agesilaos... we can't say anything for certain... Alexander was an extraordinary man, and who knows how he would've dealt with the situation... who can say? It would be sublimely interesting to hear Alexander's own thoughts on this... but... wishful thinking, I guess... :-( Yes, indeed... here...

Re: What if Alexander had lived?
First of all, don't take this reply in the wrong way, :) I'm merely retorting here... I can't just sit still... lower your sarissas  Xenophon, you wrote: It is hard to know where to begin, considering that it is already apparent from the above alone that your knowledge of matters military is n...

Re: What if Alexander had lived?
Paralus, you said: Rome, clearly, had many a general the equal of Alexander: it had to; witness her deeds and worldly position. Now, forgive me, it's late when penning these words and I've had a long day, hence the apparent confusion or misinterpretation of your statement. I take it, that when writi...
