Shortly after Oenopides, in 432 BC, Meton and Euctemon discovered the better value of 18 years, equal to 223 months (the so-called Saros period). The Saros cycle is an eclipse cycle with a period of about 18 years 11 days 8 hours (approximately 6585⅓ days) that can be used to predict eclipses of the...

Re: Did Alexander stage the date of the battle at Gaugamela?
Did he intend to take advantage of the psychological effect the lunar eclipse would have on the persian soldiers? He had to work pretty fast to turn the psychological effect of the eclipse on his own soldiers to his advantage, without worrying about the Persians. ATB I ve read that the lunar eclips...

About the invasion force of Punjab.
Some say it was 100.000 others 120.000 others 135.000 and i wonder why the size of the army that took part in Hydaspes was much smaller. And i also wonder why there was any ground for the generals to say that 'you send your men unarmed against those beasts' since Alexander had all the gold he needed...

this guy is something i ll try and say it once more. 1. Alexander never turned back. 2. Whatever he conquered remained under his rule until he died. as for the rebellions they are not part of my point. Alexander made sure that the guys he left behind could make things right if something happened. Ca...

By the time of Alexander’s death, there were no Macedonian satraps on the Indian frontier. Peithon had ...

Practical in the sense that he’d organise whatever it took to allow him to leave and move on to the next phase of conque...
