Re: Macedonian Shield

Didn't they find a stone at St.Marks tomb with a Macedonian shield engraved into it? Sorry if it's entirely irrelevant, but that's what the stones above reminded me of.

Edit: maybe not "shield" but a Macedonian "star"? Either,or...

Re: royal guard question.

Are there any arrowheads from Alexander's time that have been positively identified as from that era? If I had to choose, I would definitely be on the side of them not being from the age and campaign of Alexander. But maybe if there were any that have been identified as such, I could compare the sha...

Re: royal guard question.

The reason Im asking about the weaponry is because sometime ago, I had a trusted person tell me he was given some silver arrowheads found in a region of Afghanistan by the locals, and they told him, without a doubt in they're minds apparently, that they find arrowheads every now and then in this are...

royal guard question.

Do we have any idea what kind of weaponry Alexander's royal guard used during battle? And-or during everyday affairs, like while he was eating, sleeping, during council?

the word "hypaspists"

Is the word "Hypaspists" pronounced the way it is spelled? It's really strange when you say it out loud.

Re: Argyraspids with swords?

Greetings! long story short,.. I have absolutely no idea! :D . I do know of at least one or two gentlemen here who are very well versed in the diodach wars. Maybe they can throw in a quick response sometime in the future. Until then, I'll be scanning my limited resources for you to see if anything c...

Re: something for everyone.

To make a long study short, I had received information from within saying to me, "you are Alexander". I had to find out if it were true and so read a book by an Englishman who was an Egyptoligist, Arthur Weigall, whose book I like best. I then hoped that my spirit guide telling me that I ...

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

My apologies, my question of if Bagoas was referred to specifically as "Bagoas the eunuch" was answered in a post shortly above my question. So another question that would add to plausibility would be, could they have been referring to "Bagoas the eunuch", as such in order to not...

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

Was the eunuch Bagoas referred to as "Bagoas The eunuch" at any time during the translations? And if so, would it be more likely for him to be referred to as such in this situation as well? Just curious.

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

Are there Any situations in the ancient world where a king or commander of a military campaign had put an unlikely person in charge of an important task? Just wondering if it has happened, or if it would have probably been as out of place then, as it would be now. I am assuming that a eunuch would b...

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

He has a very strange accent though. Do eunuchs tongues go the same route as they're Willy's do? If I remember correctly, the 'actor' playing Bagoas is a Spanish ballet dancer. He is not an actor - presumably Stone decided that having used so many disparate accents already, there was no point in tr...

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

Hi Spitamenes, I'm glad you like that theory and I like very much to discuss about Alexander. I admire him greatly and he is very popular here in France where the Alexander movie was a big success. I can easily imagine Alexander setting his baggage on fire and saying goodbye to his beautiful eunuch...

Re: Bagoas left behind in Hyrcania

I like this theory about bagoas. Reason being is I also believe there has been a crap load of undue emphasis on him lately. And we do know Alexander did lead by example, especially during times where it would be of great importance to the March itself.

Re: Teacher Seeks Help

I think the size of his ideals , should be meassured , as one main point in which to consider him great . Alejandro - I would say yes and no. :) Just because I think anyone can have ideals of greatness, he just had the means in his grasp to execute them. But he DID executed his ideals with great su...
