Quickie question

Pausanias the Bodyguard who assassinated Philip was the son of Kerastes -- but what was the name of the father of the other Pausanias, the page related to Attalos who killed himself on enemy spears because Pausanias son of Kerastes had slighted him? Is it known?

Thanks in advance,
Karen

Hi AO: The quickest is Jeanne Reames-Zimmerman's dissertatiion. If you don't have it, I really suggest getting it. You're right... been putting it off... just ordered it. Heckel mentions the grant of citizenship by Athens to an Amyntor, son of Demtrios in 334 (I think, I'm going from memory) so that...

If Demtrios was his grandfather, we can only conjecture that his origins were not originally Macedonian (that and the non-Macedonian spelling of his father and possibly his briother). Possibly Hephaistion's family came up north or went west (from Samos or Magnesia or Samothrace, other places that v...

Yeah, the problem with quizzes is that they assume answers that are known definitely to be correct. I blew the unit question too. I thought question #1 was a bit misworded... I imagine a certain old one-eyed individual would be spinning in his tomb, if he were still there, to see Makedonia called a ...

Leaning more towards dread

Welcome to the forum, Phoebus, and thanks for your many intelligent insights. I think sex scenes in a movie like this are pretty much a Hollywood requirement. Rosario Dawson's bouncing breasts and Colin Farrell's boot-camp-ripped torso are going to sell tickets. Period. The homosexual aspect was the...

Oooh, I don't know

This one has been around for quite a few years, and I've seen some still shots that struck me as cheesy. The trailer has a cheesiness about it too. No help that in the cast list we see "Leto" -- which means it's based on Massimi. Not a good sign. There are a bunch of other weird characters...

Now we've got this thread back on topic, I hope we can keep it that way. I disagree about the battlefield crying scene, didn't like it at all, because though I liked the sentiment, to me the timing utterly strained plausibility. I can see Alexander having done that on his first battlefield, when he ...

Is Plutarch utterly unreliable too? ...he went to see a prize of dancing contended for, in which his favourite Bagoas, having gained the victory, crossed the theatre in his dancing habit, and sat down close by him, which so pleased the Macedonians that they made loud acclamations for him to kiss Bag...

Hmmmm... I notice that in Curtius at least that the story of the concubines comes shortly after the story of the Amazons, whose validity most people reject out of hand, even though it is told just as earnestly. It also comes accompanied with such lines as "the veterans of Philip, a group inexpe...

People eat what they are fed uppon. Either it is a vegetable with a ton of conservatives... NEVER eat these. They're much nicer with liberals, whose meat is more tender. I saw Alexander Revisited for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I could see that it really was as long and comprehensive ...
