Comparisons
Greetings, "ust because democracy is good for us, doesn't necessarily mean it is also good for tribal nations.".. and from another perspective, it might well be perceived that one person's "democracy" looks like a plutocratic oligarchy to others. Democracy has been defined in dif...

Memory
Greetings, I think we must also remember that recitative skills and memorizing of long texts were, until recently, fairly common (especially among the upper classes) and that memory can, in most cases, be improved and trained.. Orators, senators and others were expected to be able to recite long tex...

Colours
Greetings,
You might be able to find some information in Alpay Pasinli's book "The Book of Alexander Sarcophagus". It was originally printed in 1997 but reprinted in 2000.I believe you can find it on the internet, though it was orignally published in Turkey.
Regards,
Sikander

A Word of Note
Greetings, Please note: "What about] the life of passive homosexuals (kinaidon), isn't it awful and shameful and wretched?" Note the word *passive*... that word might well lend much credence to the argument about the *roles* taken in same-sex relationships. Again, since women were "le...

Sexuality
Greetings, May I interject another thought? I think there is some confusion here between effeminate behaviour and homosexuality. While it is true that there are gay men who act in what some define as "effeminate", it is also true that there are gay men who act as masculine as any other mal...

Reign
Greetings, This program is quite unlike any historical show; it is a cross between the symbolic, the allegorical, and typical anime plotlines(laughing). The author/s play havoc with character and story line; it is historical moments blended with fantasy... I think to enjoy this you would have to be ...

Alexander versus 300
Greetings, Other than a tempest in a teapot generated by peroplke who felt a need to *create* this little tempest, the primary problem with Alexander had little to do with any sexual issues, hetero-bi or homo- and a lot to do with it being a poorly made movie, with poor character development, predic...

Greetings, Marcus said: "In other words, whether the person you were having sex with was male or female was of less importance than was your, and their, level of participation and what it signified in terms of social status, etc. " And yes, as I will continue to assert, *how* was more impo...

Greetings, I would like to bring a slightly fresh perspective to this discussion as it relates to cultures and homoeroticism. First, there are cultures today in which sexual behaviours are governed by cultural or tribal-specific patterns that some people would find uncomfortable. In one tribal group...

Greetings, This was sent to me by another member; I have strong personal opinions on this movie but will probably not post them (I suspect my views- which ar enot positive- would be in a minority, as it happens) other than to say I am not surprised at anything about the movie.. sigh... Greetings Pothosians, Though I posted my original note under "Deletions and Reminders", I have decided to post this as a sticky to ensure members have it on hand as a reminder. First, as discussed long ago when we first began moderating this site, we felt it was a valuable resource for stu...

Eyes
Greetings Dean, Good topic. The eye is an important symbol throughout the ancient world.. The eye in many cultures represented the sun, which in turn represented the eye of the God, from Ahura Mazda to Horus (also Ma'at); if I recall correctly, in Egypt a son could give eye talismans in exchange for...

Tyran purple
Greetings Karen, A friend once sent me an entire discussion regarding Tyrian purple; there were arguments on its actual shade with much referencing. I will try to dig through my old emails to find that. In the meantime, here are a few links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrian_purple (caution advise...
