Re: New historical fiction on Alexander and friends

Greetings Sikander: I also enjoyed reading ‘Aniketos.’ I thought it was an easier read than the first book, which was made difficult by an unusually harsh portrayal of both Philip and Olympias. If the first volume was a treatise on power, the second one was on change and immutability. In a world of ...

The History Channel’s ‘Alexander the Great’ in ‘Ancient Empires’

The History Channel’s recently debuted (September 4, 2023) a new episode on Alexander the Great as part of its three-episode show titled ‘Ancient Empires.’ While it has a few historical errors and a dark Alexander/blonde Hephaestion, it is interesting to watch. Re: Robin Lane Fox Alexander the great

A scan of the Google Scholar indicates that there are several publications on the topic of Jesus speaking Greek. Given below is a small sample. Barr, J. (1970). Which language did Jesus speak?–some remarks of a Semitist. Bulletin of the John Rylands Library, 53(1), 9-29. Gleaves, G. S. (2015). Did J...

Re: Amphipolis II

Thank you, System1988! I find Katerina Peristeri’s unshakable belief/assertion that it is Hephaestion’s burial place somewhat convincing. Even if it is not, the other candidates for it — Olympias, Roxana, and Alexander IV — are all believable enough. Given below is the link to Peristeri’s March 2017...

Your labor of love is much appreciated!

Also, would you consider adding a section on “theses and dissertations about Alexander?” I am happy to send you references and links. We can abbreviate the abstracts for ease of navigation.

Dr. Heckel’s Dissertation on Alexander’s Marshals

https://open.library.ubc.ca/media/download/pdf/831/1.0094524/1 Dr. Heckel, in his dissertation, focuses on the following four marshals of Alexander the Great - Hephaistion, Leonnatos, Krateros, and Perdikkas. This research seems to be the starting point of his subsequent works on ATG’s marshals. Dr....
