Re: Gaugamela

My understanding is that there were 8000 who reached the sea and less than 13000 who started the journey. The vast number of the inficted casualties was due to the hardships (especially snow on Armenian mountains) rather than the effectiveness of the imperial army. "At the same time, also, came...

Re: Gaugamela

Re: Vangelis

Forgot to mention that I find his work at "Bladerunner" to be sublime. An absolute masterpiece! (even if "Chariots of Fire" got all the glory)

Re: ATG- EVANGELS=EVE+ANGEL/S=LOOK AN ANGEL/S...IN MAKEDONIA

Dear Vasko, our lives would be empty without you :-)So, as you say: EVANGELS= EVEANGELIE= EVE=HERE IT IS...+ ANGEL= LOOK+ AN ANGEL..., Angelos is a Greek word meaning "messenger" (from Angelia=message)and Eu is another Greek word meaning "good" or "beautifull", so Evang...

Re: ATG

Regarding Jesus, that is my knowledge as well. Although Greek was widespread amongst the Jews at the time as a result of Alexander's conquest. But It was the Evangels (Gospels) that were written in Greek. Perhaps Stavros you're mixing the two...

Re: A new monument.

It actually is a stupid idea fostered by some equaly stupid people with a very bad taste for art!The good news is that this project was rejected quite a few years ago, as it was impossible to receive approval from the Greek environmental or archaeological authorities...

Re: Butchery in Baktria

If I can add some more to Alexander's defence, the Tyrians have thrown the bodies of the dead to the sea. That was the worst crime in the eyes of Greeks because if not properly burries, the dead could not find rest in the underworld. Remember the Athenian admirals, that were put to death upon their ...

Perhaps that was part of his defence line against the Skythians. Probably designed to hold the frontier after Spitamenes was defeated (?)

Re: Was Hercules the symbol of Alexander for Greeks?

You think that the Hellanodikes actualy cared to check where was his family's origin from before they accepted him as Greek? He was an important man that they wanted to have good relations with and I doubt they were stupid enough to "confuse" the two cities...Herakles was the forefather of...
