Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

It's the surrounding wall yes, and i think the evidence Mrs Peristeri has may be more than markings and analogies. This remains to be seen of course. I'll find the source for the temple later on. By the way, Effi is a female nickname for Efstathia and other similar greek names, so just call me Stath...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

Yes the title "Re-writing History" could suggest Alexander III. On the other hand, if it's Kassandros or some other King, it could fit the description as from what we know so far all the Kings were buried in Pella. However this title was given just a few days ago, and the reporter surely h...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

There is some talk about the remains of a swan somewhere in the first room (yes, a swan). I also read somewhere about the reserve heads at the egyptian tombs which may have a connection with the sphinx's head on the 3rd room implying some kind of burial ritual, or maybe not. The next press conferenc...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

According to rumors, the second head has been found in the same room and will be presented tomorrow. Now, these heads should have been supporting something, but the entrance is an arch, and so far there is no evidence of a flat surface just below the arch. So, if these are the heads of the sphinxes ...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

This might support a working hypothesis that Cassander wrecked and closed up Olympias's tomb Which tomb, this one or the one at Pydna? You are already making it a fact that it's Olympias' tomb. It could be, but you are presenting it as a hard fact without any evidence. By the way, the head of the s...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

I've studied several of the photos that are published and even used photoshop and tried to enhance them but could not see any markings. What i saw were a lot of shapes resembling markings and even a face at one wall inside the tomb, but of course most of them if not all are just pareidolias. The pho...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

Perdikkas who was allegedly given the ring of sucession, and possibly wanted for Alexander to be buried at Macedonia. It is said that officer Arrhidaeus constructed the carriage for Alexander's body in 2 years, thus they started heading for Macedonia at 321, but maybe it took 2 years for the tomb to...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

First let me address the question regarding Dorothy King. From what i have read on her blog, she has stated that she has seen photos of the outer wall that have not been published. This prior to August when the first leak happened as she said, when they discovered the epigraphs. After that she is ju...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

I cannot see it either but as she said the angle and lighting doesn't make it clear, which means she has probably seen other photos with it. It was prof. Kargakos who said that Alexander wanted to make Amphipolis the new capital of his empire. I do not know where exactly he is drawing this assumptio...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipol

Dorothy King's blog is named "Dorothy King's PhDiva". There is a new blog post titled "Alexander was here...?" . In it she gives clues about what the archaeologists found before August and so far are keeping it a secret. It's the same reason why they have always known that the to...
