Re: Was Alex an epileptic?

Hello Ruth,I've posted on this one before, and will repeat it here. The classic head tilt is typically associated with a calcium deficiency. It is usually accompanied by a slightly lowered shoulder opposite the tilt. The head tilt is the bodies way of compensating for the spinal subluxation. It is t...

Re: more cast

Hi all, How about Linda Carter as Olympias. After all, she played the Amazon Queen "Wonder Woman" for years....for Marcus, all I can say is "if only Salma Hayek could act"...We will need a woman with great stage presence to play Barsine, potentially to lift any perfomance by Alex...

Re: New translation of the Iliad

Hi Marcus,How've you been? It's been a while, but just found some time to check in and make a few comments. I still haven't been able to get all the way through Alexander Popes version, but still look forward to it some day when time alots. The Fitzgerald translation still awaits after that. later N...

The impending doom of the approaching mole

Hello fellow pothosians...It's easy enough to imagine how unnerving it must have been to have this land mass arm growing closer every day...just knowing that soon it will be at your front door bringing an almost certain doom. Is there a source which cites specifically the apprehension caused by the ...

Re: Alexander's Wall in Iran

I seem to recall this wall being mentioned in Michael Woods video "In the Footsteps of Alexander". Michael and a female scientist walked along the side of the wall and she confirmed that it was Alexanders wall. It seems a bit unlikely to me that this is the case, as Alexander didn't stay a...

Alexander in Exile

Greetings All,The thought naturally occured to me that while in exile Alexander must have trained fervantly in the military and martial arts. He may have used this time to great advantage before being recalled to hone his skills and learn new ones. The alternative is that he lived the veritable life...

The map of his empire?

Hello fellow Pothosians,
My question is concerning the map of Alexander's empire. Did Alexander have this map made during his own lifetime, or was it done later by historians to mark the extent of his kingdom?

Re: film

My favorite moments would have to be:The rouse involving the cavalcading horses and the phalanx in complex drilling formations...when Alexander is trapped against the Taulauntians early on in his campaigns into northern and western frontiers (Illeria). Of course there is also the Persian gates debac...

Re: The Life of Alexander the Great

Karl,Hephaistion died. This in and of itself gives me cause for concern on this issue. We hear nothing of Hep being ill previously, which to me implies a healthy imposition, and causes me concern when 3 days before falling ill, he suddenly dies. Would Alex have exacted some kind of a purge had he fo...

Re: Just a thought!

Karl,I've never read anything about the pike having a joint either, but if it did, it would make sense to me in that transporting the thing would be greatly simplified. I would think that Philip would have worked out the kinks in the design of the joint to ensure its reliable use in battle. Of cours...

Re: A's Judgment

I think you make a good point about not all of us seeing Alex as a tyrant. I think he was growing increasingly unstable towards the end and his actions showed this to be the case. Either way, in this case he certainly made some examples of the satraps and lengthened the line of those who would have ...

Re: Just a thought!

Dave,I didn't read that particular article on the sarissa, but it is an interesting insight into the tactical minutae side of the infantry. To me it makes good sense that the sarissa be broken down for easier transport, and you can be sure that Philip II also had this in mind when he put the phalanx...

Re: quote that doesn't fit

The interesting thing here is that Alexander was surrounded by so many illegitimate heirs to the throne already. The danger now was that Cleopatra was full blooded Macedonian, and of a high ranking family. Any son produced by this coupling would certainly be a rival for Alexander, himself only a hal...

Re: Saturnalian drink

It sure does sound fun, and if I were a rich man with time to burn (or at least a vacation) i'd love to join in this brewpub extravaganza...in the meantime, i'll throw in my choice for drink which is now my favorite beer...Warsteiner.
