Re: book written by Alexander the Great.
I seem to recall reading about the Assassins -- that the name meant "hashish-eaters," and is indeed the root of the English word "assassin." Perhaps their mindless murderous/suicidal loyalty arose out of being stoned all the time...Vasko, if you have the book in your hands, can y...

Re: The Last Campaign
I liken this situation to, say, a contemporary town in the United States deciding to put a roadblock across an interstate highway and tell every driver, "Cough up $50 or you don't cross." Including police in cruisers, army convoys, etc. The authorities wouldn't put up with it for five minu...

Re: More on Stone's Alexander sides
Yes, I know that's hard to believe, especially considering that I am a diehard Mary Renault fan. I used to avoid reading books about Alexander, and still haven't caught up on all that I should.I will read it, probably when I've finished the rough draft but not yet finalized my own version of Alexand...

More on Stone's Alexander sides
Just thought I'd continue this conversation on a new thread since the original one is about to slide off the bottom of the page into Pothos oblivion... Rebecca wrote:"Anyone who's read all of the sides -- are there any more blatant similarities to her books to be found?"I'm here with the K...

Re: speculations about Oliver Stone's movie
In regard to historical inaccuracies, I think... and hope... that the saving grace here will be that there are two movies. With any luck, the two will provide two entirely different interpretations of Alexander, and thus leave people realizing the truth -- that, historically, he is very much a myster...

Re: ALEXANDER (Oliver Stone) audition sides
Hi Kal:I went back and read that copyright notice, and now I'm thinking I should never have transcribed those sides onto this forum, and shouldn't again... I could get myself and perhaps even Pothos, heaven forbid, into legal trouble. Maybe no one will ever know, but then again, this website gets a ...

Re: speculations about Oliver Stone's movie
Nick, your imagination is running wild with the idea that Philip isn't going to be in the movie, anyway... unless those script excerpts (or "sides" as they're called) are for this prequel you're suggesting and not the movie being shot. The Alexander at age 7 one has Alexander being taught ...

Re: ALEXANDER (Oliver Stone) audition sides
Yes, this is the very site. Thanks Kal. I notice there are two that weren't there before -- Alexander age 7 & Alexander age 12-14. Why Hephaistion's is still there when Jared Leto has the role, I don't know... ditto Roxane... seems a little shady to sell them. What the heck... if anyone else is t...

Re: The Tomb Armour
The hypothesis is that Alexander IV was the owner of a set of bones, identified as a male adolescent's, in a different tomb at Vergina (Tomb III, I believe).L&P,

Re: Alexander's height
Hi Marcus & Susan:I suppose it's true, if Arrhidaios had enough mental capacity to undertake the military training and to follow orders ("Persians *that* way -- kill!") he might have fought. I guess it depends on the degree of his mental handicap. Curtius certainly has him speaking, an...

Re: Alexander's height
Yes, of course, you are all right, Arrhidaios must have had armour, even if just for appearance's sake. (The post-323 history is *not* my forte...)I doubt he fought, though. Because as royalty he'd have been expected to command, and if he'd commanded, we'd surely hear something about him leading a b...
