Not sure what it is your trying to establish here, but Macedon was conquered by the Persians. The Peloponnese, as with much of Greece, was heavily connected to the Persian king's purse. When did the Persians conquer Macedon? And what do you mean by Greece being connected to the Persian king's purse...

I think Alexanders shows of remorse were varied. Clietus I feel genuine. But I also think he had the cunning of his dad and some of it was to suite the purpose. Im in the minority that feels the Beas mutiny was overplayed. I guess Im the only one that feels Alexander was aware he had gone far enoug...

Hi Lisa. Welcome. :D I'm new too. I don't have my book with me right now, but somewhere Robin Lane Fox in his biography mentions an incident of Alexander's humour, where the latter teases an acquaintance (back in Greece? - sorry, bad memory) about his greed and so sends him a whole barrel of provisi...

Such as when he stopped wearing Persian dress and dismissed all the Persians from his court, because Cleitus the Black was a bit unhappy about it, and thanked Cleitus for putting him on the straight and narrow? Sorry, I don't think so. Not least because, when you are effectively the ruler of the wo...

I’ve no idea to what year you refer by “teens”, I'm sorry about that Paralus. I should have been more specific. I was actually referring to years 7-10. :D From what I can tell, the study of Greece covers far more than in my day. Not only is Alexander included (at least two possible questions at a g...

Sikander your words are a breath of fresh air. Finally, someone is taking a level-headed approach. Alexander could not have known more about human relationships than what his society had taught him and his society (no offence here to any Greeks out there) was one in which homoerotic encounters most ...

Amyntoros - I'm not surprised at your comments. I too, thought of using In The Footsteps of Alexander the Great for my History class to, as you said, show various places he'd been and stimulate interest. However, they are way too long and Michael's language is pitched at adults, not teens, so I thou...

The movie opens here in Australia on 5 April. My brother's Net friends in the US say it's a ripper. People in Greece are now saying they are expecting a huge influx of tourists to the Peloponnese this summer because of 300 and they are optimistic about the revenue possibilities. From what I've seen ...

Kenny, I'm really sorry about what your little boy went through. Kids can be cruel; or rather, kids' parents can be cruel and kids are just brutally honest - the worst diplomats in the world. That's why I love them and I often can't stand their parents. :) (They say nothing drains courage like...

That's one that interests me too, Paralus. Perhaps we could start a new post about it.

Paralus, I was making a comment on Michael Wood's accuracy of research for his doc; I was not saying anything about the validity of scripture. I was hoping my comments wouldn't lead to theological apologetics. :? In general, bible prophecy is a very messy matter and nobody (from either side of the '...

Speaking of religion Paralus, Wood also mentions in his video that Alexander is prophesied in the bible as the terrifying beast with iron teeth, which is uninformed. If we look into it closely, we will find that in the book of Daniel, Alexander is actually prophesied as "a shaggy goat with a pr...

Hi again :) In this homo-/bisexuality debate, I'm surprised at how little the culture of ancient Greece has been properly examined. Sodomy was, and still is, practised among men (with either women or men) in Greece, purely for survival. Women in ancient Greece (and even today in the villages) were k...
