Hi, all. I don’t see many differences between what happened and what could have happened as far as Christianity is concerned. After all, in the second century b.C. the Jews had already rebelled against the Seleucids, who were a Macedonic empire and not always tolerant in religious matters; it was t...

Archimedes Palimpsest

Apparently they've found some new information on Salamis and Chaeronea. Here's a link in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/27/arts/27greek.html?hp&ex=1164603600&en=0d1ab07f3d6bdddf&ei=5094&partner=homepage And here's the homepage of the research on the Palimpsest: http://w...

I figured that cheering might not be acceptable, hence  .

Gomi's the closest person, along with Fedor, to being my idea of a fighting God.
Plus he's the best looking of the fighters.

Re:

I was watching Tommy last night. I tend to think that Roger Daltry is probably as close to what I think Alexander looks like of anybody I've seen. He needs a little more thickness, but if anybody were to write an alternate universe "Alexander at 60," Mr. Daltry is who I would choose to pla...

re:

Efstathios, that was exactly what i was going to say... I think if theres a debate on how the empire should be called the first to give an answer would have to be Alexander himself. And so he did. After the battle of Granicus Alexander sent to Athens 300 persian armors with the following message: &...

Spot on Revisionist

:D

We know that there are enough people who want to tear down Alexander. We shouldn't be amazed when one writes about it on the board. My guess is that he's just trolling.

re: Shahnameh

The Shahnameh appears to be one of the foundations for Nizami's Sikander Nama E. Bara, which has the isbn 8186142851. The most current volumes in English are beautiful, at least the volume with Alexander in it, and are available at amazon.com. The volume with Alexander in it has the isbn of 09342116...

re: Shanameh

The most current english editions cost about $120 each - 3 vols. - and may be the most beautiful books I've seen recently (well, at least the Alexander volume - here's the isbn: 093421168X ). The Shanameh sections on our hero are similar to the Persian Alexander Romance Sikandernameh e bara by Nazim...

Yes, I do have the book...I'm currently reading it so I'm not able to give you the total low down. Dr. Pal's writing style is interesting (it has been suggested that English may be a second language), but I've been reading his web pages for a while. He does do a lot of connecting by names by roots a...

Re: Bagoas

Hi all, One of the main points in Ranajit Pal's Non-Jonesian Indology and Alexander is that Bagoas the Eunuch (as opposed to Bagoas the boy toy  ) was that he survived and attached himself to Alexander as he headed toward India. It's a very fascinating view, IMHO. Copies of the book are ver...

Actually, this has been a most enlightening discussion.

You should be thanked...

Thanks. :D

I tend to side with most of what you've written, particularly about his being denigrated by many, if not most, current popular historians and academics.
