Re: The Sword of Alexander in the Batman vs Superman film
Xenophon, you appear to be missing the point. The fact was that you caused offense to at least three people on this thread with your dismissive and superior tone. ......only for those interested in the 'minutiae' of the subject and the usual various digressions. For readers generally, I can save the...

Re: The Sword of Alexander in the Batman vs Superman film
Thank you, Amyntoros. My response would have been less on-topic.

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipolis
There might well be a case to say that the Scasato Apollo is influenced by portraits of Alexander and it may well be an image of him, but it is often difficult to say whether such images are meant to be Apollo, Alexander, or just a generic 'heroic' type that has been influenced by the work of Lysipp...

Re: Amphipolis
Liana Souvaltzi. She has uncovered a Greek temple at Siwah that was discovered in the 19th century and is convinced it is Alexander's tomb (even though it isn't and most people think she is at best unreliable). How did the Israelis get it shut down? Don't think the Egyptian government would do it to...

Good Lord, I've just worked it out - it must be over 30 years since I read RLF.

Re: Amphipolis
Equally baffled, Pauline, but I think Nicator is referring to the plot of his fictional epic. Is it time to start a new thread that is Alexander-related? Does anyone have any suggestions? A read-through and discussion of one of the sources? A read-through of one of the recognised text books? It's ye...

Re: Amphipolis
Amyntoros, that seems like an awful lot of work to undertake. Sean, I'm curious. Why have you chosen now to voice your complaints about this forum? I think that the decline in posting had something to do with all the arguments and very long threads. Some people enjoy that but its not my cup of tea. ...

Re: A terrible loss - Agesilaos; Karl
Karl's funeral is on 3rd May at 4.30 pm at Beckenham Cemetery & Crematorium, Kent. Thanks, Pauline, for helping me find out the details. I am away from home that day, but will try to light a candle. I have arranged for some flowers to be sent to the funeral. Pauline has sent some too. It did not...

Oh, God, that's terrible. RIP, and condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

Re: Cassander (and Olympias)
Who has suggested that Cassander might have built a tomb for Olympias? It is quite a preposterous suggestion. He hated her grimly. Besides it was not his responsibility. It was the responsibility of her family and in particular the responsibility of her grandson, the recognised sole king of the Mac...

Re: Cassander (and Olympias)
Thanks. Agnes Saville also says, several times but without offering any evidence, that Cassander would not allow any positive biography of Alexander to be published. I think she may just be extrapolating that backwards because Ptolemy didn't get round to writing his memoirs until he was an old man. ...

Cassander (and Olympias)
I have been reading Agnes Saville's "Alexander the Great and his Time" (1955). She says that Alexander didn't take Cassander to Asia with him because of Cassander's poor health. This gave him an inferiority complex, and partly accounts for his eradication of Alexander's family. I couldn't ...

Re: The Sphinxes Guarding the Lion Tomb Entrance at Amphipolis
Are they not aware that the Prado hasn't identified that bronze head as Hephaestion for 3 or 4 years? They now identify it as more likely to be Demetrios Polioketes, son of Antigonos https://www.museodelprado.es/en/the-collection/art-work/portrait-of-demetrios-poliorketes-/56e2bd91-856c-4e22-9052-00...
