Re: Alexander Was not an Alcoholic.

I agree. People also drink to forget, or escape. With atrocities all around him, it couldn't have been easy for ATG - ancient-world standards or not. I believe he became a functioning alcoholic, much like Churchill. Also, he was in a position to do it.

Re: Alexanders Influence on basically all todays religions?

Hi KennyThat's quite a claim that was made by the programme makers. I like to take the view that world religions that have passed the test of time have been borne from the minds of great spiritual thinkers. Alexander was many things, but surely not that. Chris

Maps

Are there any maps used by Alexander still in existence? What would have been his main sources?

Re: Diet and Daily Routine

The concept that ATG didn't enjoy "exercise" tickles me. Where does hunting fit in here, or being fit enough to go into battle?

That's a good idea Kenny - maybe The early years - The major battles - The journey home? It'll never happen though. A missed opportunity. Chris

Re: Can we call Alexander a hero?

HiMy dictionary defines a hero as "a man distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility etc. A man who is idealised for possessing superior qualities in any field..."I think this should be accepted by both allies and enemies alike, albeit grudgingly.Chris

Re: Persia Ready to be taken by anyone with the will.

Hi KennyIt would have been interesting to know how well ATG would have done keeping the Empire together had he lived. No easy task given the distances involved and the "opposing" populations. A rapid integration perhaps, with a lot of palms greased? I suppose it could be argued it was easi...
