Re: Influence of Aristotle on Alexander

I cant answer that one, but perhaps the likes of Marcus and others can! That said, I certainly think that Aristotle had enough influence on Alexander to get him to admire and promote values of 'high greek culture' such as philosophy that was getting very 'scientific' with advanced concepts in mathema...

Re: Persia Ready to be taken by anyone with the will.

I dont think Persia was ripe for the taking at Alexanders time. It is all credit to Alexanders tactics and skill on the battlefield, and also slightly to luck. He was lucky not to have been struck down and killed by bravely fighting at the front lines of the battle. But that is one of the things tha...

Re: Alexandrias so Called Drinking.Cassander Propoganda

That would be Cleitus which I think Kenny mentioned in his post. To be fair to Alexander however, Cleitus himself was drunk also and was going too far in provoking him. That doenst justify the action however and Alexander new it, hence his heavy grief for what he did.The other case of Alexander doin...

Re: has the movie brought us any new members?

Although the film does raise mixed feelings amongst a lot of the community, I'm sure most of us can agree that it does have some great moments.

Re: Philp,Attalus and Alexander

I think the part with Cleitus hitting Hephaistion is just to add emphasis on the Macedonians being a 'rough' people. In contrast to the greeks or perhaps also in contrast to the Persians they've conquered. Other touches that go with this is that they like heavy drinking and like violence, such as th...

Re: Any good Games ?

Although not a a game specifically about Alexander, Rome Total War is an excellent game set at the time of the successor kingdoms and the rise of Rome.Better still, is if you use the Rome Total Realism mod (made by a dedicated team of volunteers, but it really is a very professional and well researc...

Re: Alexander's appearance

If it isnt Philip II, could it be the grave of Antigonus the one eyed perhaps? Maybe his son Demetrius had his body buried in Macedonia after he became king.

Re: Interesting 'who killed Alexander?' site.

Hehe, I have to agree that it has got the feel of a tabloid newspaper doing history at times! To it's credit however, under it's article on Seleucus they actually have a link for further information on the 'shield bearer' (hysaspist) soldiers that links directly back here to the military section of p...

Re: Challenge To Pothos Members

Oh dear, my battle line has come out nothing like how I set it out in the message posting space. So I hope the forum users here can bear that in mind before I get lambasted for portraying such a strange battle line and a Macedonian one that is nothing like Alexanders at Gaugamela!Nevermind :)

Re: Seeing Colin Farrell

The directors cut is currently number one in the UK DVD charts. The theatrical two disc version is at number 3I'm glad to see them doing well. The general consensus at my place of work (a lot of people didnt see the film at the cinemas but have hired or brought directors cut) is that its 'pretty goo...

Re: Challenge To Pothos Members

I'd still recommend giving the game a crack, the turn based campaign is quite entertaining too and plays similar to the likes of Civilisation 3. It is possible to automate battles but then, i'd say its a case of practice makes perfect for the 3d battles! But I digress! As to taking on Alexanders army...

Re: Challenge To Pothos Members

Hello, I'm afraid i'm in a rush for work so I'll add a quick post on this excellent game before adding one on possible tactics later.Rome Total War, its engine was used for a TV historical battles series, and while the game does have its flaws it is still very good and even better...A user made 'mod...
