Re: The Making of a God
The show’s Hephaestion was a bit too tame for me. While his portrayal as the BFF, counselor, and diplomat was fairly good, I can’t see the show’s Hephaestion torturing Philotas, crossing swords with Craterus, or fighting with Eumenes. I have the same opinion. Hephaistion appears weak-willed and pra...

Re: Dr. Heckel’s Dissertation on Alexander’s Marshals
I'm working on a monograph about Hephaistion and Krateros at present. Not sure when it'll be finished, much less published. It a many-years later revision of my own doctoral dissertation on Hephaistion, with a lot more background on the court, and, of course, the addition of Krateros. How interesti...

Re: Podcast on Alexander's death
Thank you for the link to the podcast and reference to the book. After Hephaistion and Alexander, Perdiccas was always my next favorite. He is usually badmouthed (thanks to Ptolemy), so I am curious how the author presents him.

Re: Franz v Schwarz: Alexander in Turkestan
Thank you, Chris Taylor, for this very interesting post. I wish I knew German but still, I am going to explore this material. I maybe can give you some help with one of the points of the route. In your table of route points (in Word) there is item #9 that you put in Old German as "Kamenny-Most&...

Hermann Lucke illustrations
Hi all - I saw these illustrations for the first time and I hope they will be interesting for others too. It has been ages since I posted images here and I couldn't figure out how to do it, so I am just providing the links to Getty images. I had to chuckle at the illustration of Alexander's entrance...

That was a general link for the webpage where you can search for many different topics. For ATG books you have to type his name in the search bar. Here is specific link to Alexander https://www.pdfdrive.com/alexander-the-great-books.html

Teachers of Alexander
Yesterday, October 5, was World Teachers' Day - to all teachers here - thank you very much for the important job you are doing. I wish you all to have attentive and inquisitive students! Alexander was definitely an inquisitive student of Aristotle but whether he was attentive - it's a question mark....

Re: "Trampling in the Land of Woe"
There are cheaper ones on Abebooks.co.uk. Anyone know what the other two volumes are called or about? Yes, the second book is called "Sparks from a Cruel Grindstone" and it is about Boudica, the third one was not published yet, I think. The second and third books are not about Hephaistion...

Re: "Trampling in the Land of Woe"
This is interesting. Thanks. I looked it up, but it costs somewhere around $150 used. I may collect ATG fiction, but that's too rich for my blood. LOL! Still, the author seems to have a page on Goodreads. Their may be another option to get a hold of the novel. $150 USD used? I bought a new book on ...

"Trampling in the Land of Woe"
Happy New Year everyone! Absolutely by chance I came across this book "Trampling in the Land of Woe" by William Galaini (published in 2015). It is about Hephaistion searching for Alexander in Hell. Below is the brief description from the author's website (readers' reviews can be easily fou...
