Re: Hephaestion
Any source would be really helpful. I've began reading through the ones I was able to get and so far, most are the same, but they all have bits and pieces that are different from each.

Re: Hephaestion
Thank you very much. I found Jeanne's website last night. (My internet is crap, so had to wait for ungodly hours to load it.) And I do agree that studies about Hephaestion needs to be explored a bit more. There's just so much that's unknown about the man. Again, thank you for the links. I hope there...

Hephaestion
Hey guys, wondering if I could get a bit of help. I'm currently doing some research on Hephaestion....and coming a bit short in terms of sources and information. Can anyone suggest some reading, links and the like in terms of him? I wasnt sure if there had been a similar thread prior, so I thought o...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Goodie~ More books on Macedonia. :D I'll probably have to order it from the bookstore if I dont find an ebook of it sooner or later. These all seem to be great readings, by the way. Though that sure is fun..being able to work with the person who discovered Philip's tomb. What I'd give to be able to ...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Now... I have second thoughts about getting the set. Thanks for the warning, guys. Really cuts down the books that I need to get.
Though in terms of fiction...if there's a book that you can recommend, what would it be?

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
O.O! Oh! Books about Macedonia! I have been searching for them. The person I get books from said he's never seen one and if there are any, it might probably be about how heavy in debt they were. But I'm glad to know they exist~ I'll be sure to check those books out as well~ <3 I am seriously interes...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Greetings Kahiel, You have gotten some good advice from the members here so I will not repeat, but I did want to suggest you visit the book review pages to get a better feel for some of the various approaches writers have taken and some of the responses these books received from our members.. http:...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Ah, so Manfredi's work is fantasy...that makes me feel somewhat uneasy...
Thank you for the suggestions. At least it narrows down things a bit for my reading. Are there works of Heckle and Bosworth and others available electronically?

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
If you ever do take a look, would you be so kind as to share whether it's something worth having or if it's just another fad riding along with Alexander? Though how do you try to validate which source is best to start with or is more reliable than the other....and when one problem arises, how or whe...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
From a personal point of view, I would strongly suggest not touching Manfredi's books with a barge-pole. I am constantly disappointed by fictional accounts of Alexander - in fact, I can't remember a single one since Mary Renault that I thought was really any good at all (and even Renault's books ar...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
I try my best to find the best sources that I can. (Which is why she came upon this place.) First time I saw the Landmark Arrian I just knew that I had to get my hands on it, somehow. Though I agree, it does seem to be riddled with problems. Every historian had his take on Alexander's life and his c...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Then I'll be sure to look up Marcus' suggestion. Finding them is the only problem. Lane Fox's version has long been gone from bookstores here. I've searched every bookstore in the vicinity that I can find. Through ebooks I managed to find the psuedo-Callisthenes version and I'm wondering if that's a...

Re: Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Thank you very much for the suggestions! At least now, I have a good place to start. Sadly though, books on Alexander are very hard to find in this country. It's actually very frustrating. Though, I did order for the Landmark Arrian, just waiting for it to arrive. I dont mind very much if it's costl...

Alexander the Great: Beginning the Campaign
Hi! It's been a few months since I've been charmed by the life of Alexander the Great. I have a few books on him including Philip Freeman's biography on him (the first book she read), I have Plutarch's Life of Alexander, one by Paul Cartledge as well as a book stating his military profile...but I'm ...
