Re: Philip's sight

I'm talking by personal experience. I cock my head to the right as I read books, or now, at computer. When I am typing, no, it is straight, but I know that when I am reading, it is almost on my shoulder, and a bit downwards.

So, maybe in ALex it was something to do with reading.

Re: Hephaestion

That's a bold hypothesis, dear susa....i mean about the double ki g ship of sparta..well i remember the two divine brothers castor and polytheukis ....One god the other human.. i am far from athens these days and I can scarcely write ...but I am not sure it is right for the spartan kings.which are ...

Re: Hephaestion

Have you guys ever heard of the dual kingship in Sparta? It is known as diarchy, and it would comprise a divine king, and a human king. Of course the divinity of the one is mythical (let's suppose it anyways). But the human nature of the other one is, well, much more plausible :) What does it remind...

Re: Hephaestion

Jared Leto in eyeliner is about as far from my view of Hephaistion as possible. (....) Stone owed too much to Renault, who essentially wrote Hephaistion as a cypher. He had no personality. He can be written better, imo. Dr. Reames, but surely you will agree that Renault didn't thought Hephaistion u...

Re: Hephaestion

Nice thread! Wasn't Hephaistion an accomplished young man? God bless him! There is one more thing about him that have turned up for me in my researches on the Pharos building... Something about inscribing Hep's name on business contracts (many commerce people in and out the Alexandria bay, I suppose...

Bessos, Alexander, and deep Persia

If Alexander didn't need to go after Bessos deep into Persia, would he have gone anyway? I mean, going through Bactria and all those places was a must-do, a true strategy? Or it just "happened"?

Re: Did Alexander dislike ugly people??!!

It is difficult to envision a group of people more repugnant in their visage than the mutilated Greeks allegedly* encountered by Alexander as he approached Persepolis (see Curtius 5.5.5-24; Diodorus 17.69.2-4; Justin 11.14.11-12;) but we are told that Alexander responded to their appearance with em...

Food-taster

I shouldn't be bumming around here, what of my dissertation and so on, but I just found this old poison post with this most interesting story about a food-taster! At first, it seemed laughable, but then I thought, why shouldn't Alexander have had a food-taster? He had an individual just to pour his ...

Re: Hephaestion

Hi! Well, I really wasn't trying to be historically correct, I was only [trying] thinking with the Hollywood mind :) And really -- how one can talk history when one is thinking of that movie lol Ah yes, Hephaistion was granted the old hazarapatis title, was he not? But not that power you mention, th...

Pretty private chappies, feel like slapping them noisily sometimes for being so private WTH! :D I have watched that movie more than twice, and God! it is so bad, un...
